Meeting Overview The Human Variome Project holds a major meeting every two years to update members on plans, progress and opportunities for the global collection and sharing of genetic variation information. This 4th Human Variome Project meeting will continue the theme of the previous meetings and address issues of implementation in this unique project. As this will be the first meeting of the Consortium since the Project was granted Operational Relations with UNESCO, we are delighted to once again be holding this meeting at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France. HVP4 will focus on the next steps to be taken to implement the outcomes of the 2011 HVP Beijing Meeting. The meeting will bring together bioinformaticians, clinical geneticists, researchers, database curators, diagnostic laboratory heads, common disease variation experts, and genome sequencers to address the integration and implementation issues impacting on: - Public Health
- Ethics
- Phenotype & the use of unpublished data
- Gene/Disease Specific Databases; models, pathogenicity, standards, data sharing, quality control, accreditation
- Developing countries
- Skills sharing & Education
- Data accumulation & incentives
Objectives 1. To ensure progression of the objectives of the Human Variome Project to “collect variation causing disease (mutations) in all genes world wide”. 2. To examine all areas of the implementation and integration of the overall and individual parts of the project. 3. To present projects underway or planned towards the HVP objective. 4. To integrate current projects where possible. 5. To establish collaborations and projects were the need exists. 6. To gather experts and optimal leaders in the strategies and software required, together with those responsible for collecting data. 7. To gather those who are already collecting mutations within their counties and others who wish to establish a system, especially those from developing countries. 8. To gather those who are experienced in funding and governance to consider the most optimal ways for the HVP to move forward. The delegates will develop and hear of programs now underway and planned in the listed areas, with a particular focus on the implementation of integrated systems into global healthcare strategies and systems. Abstracts Closing date 31st March 2012 We invite abstracts to be submitted to the meeting, there are VERY LIMITED opportunities for an oral presentation so if your abstract is not chosen for an oral presentation it might be accepted as a poster if it is relevant to the Human Variome Project. All topics related to collection of variations are welcome. Topics about the discovery of a new variation e.g. reporting a new mutation are outside the scope of this meeting. Some suitable topics are suggested below: - clinical data collection
- molecular data collection
- distributed databasing (country and gene specific)
- country specific collection
- transfer to central databases
- incentives for databasing
- ethics
- funding and governance
